Chandru's Pure Ghee Sweets, Seven Bungalows
6, Shiv Shopping Centre, Opposite Pratap Society, Mumbai Phone No : 022 2634 0278 / 3721
1900 hours, 10th August 2014, Sunday:
Chandru's is a legacy of Tharu Chandru partnership of Khar. The split had resulted in the founding of this store located at premium Seven Bungalows.
It is essentially a Sindhi sweet meat shop, extending out on the pavement as a Chaat counter as well. They have taken up double the real estate area of one outlet in the location, the other part functioning as a kitchen. They have about eight tables put up outside the shop for patrons to dine in and enjoy the chaat from the chaat counter, which is located close by and is out for display.

There is zero ambiance as this hardly qualifies as a restaurant. Just a few ordinary tables and chairs thrown outside. As the chaat items are also prepared on the roadside, there is a big question mark on the hygiene factor, considering the dust and the grime of the vehicular traffic on the uber busy Seven Bungalows. The recently come up Metro rail, located bang above, only adds to the chaos.
As if that were not enough, you have to have a look at the outlet in the morning. Seated on the floor, a few dirty, vest clad men (sometimes with their bellies half exposed) are seen preparing the sweetmeats. They sweat about beside the ineffective table fan, have a cuppa and go about their chores as a task to be completed.
Its impossible to ignore this hygiene factor, but if you are willing to be accommodating for a moment, then the display of the final product is going to thrill you. You have all types of alluring mithais, with their signature recipe - the "singar mithai" ruling the roost. Thats sev barfi for all ye non Sindhis. As far as their preparations are concerned, they are richly made with no compromises on the ingredients. The dried up fruits and nuts are used liberally. So the sev barfi is sprinkled with almond pieces, the kaju barfi has visible crumbs of cashew nuts atop and their kesar badam katli stands true to its name. |

The also have a Sunday special menu, where they serve Dal Pakwaan and Sindhi kadhi, keeping the flag of the Sindhis flying high.
