2030, 18th September 2014, Thursday:
The website of the hotel, wwwgrandsolitairecom, is interestingly blank on the history, the promoters and the meaty info on themselves. Rather what we get is eulogisation and self praise whichever page you visit. That's one strike down.
The restaurant, on the other hand, salvages the situation. Located on the premium Park Lane on the Paradise Circle, the glitz is sufficient enough to draw you in.

You meet the F and B Manager, Mr B Mohan, who is an unassuming simpleton gentleman. He informs about his journey to this hotel , how the restaurant is slowly and steadily gaining popularity, how it is patronised largely by corporate clientele and how it stands out both in terms of price and the quality vis a vis other restaurants in the location.
A glance around shows that it is fair sized real estate. The area is artistically done. Soothing colours and plethora of attractive bulbs on the roof top. Cushioned sofas and teakwork tables. An unblossomed rose bud adorning each table.
I look around at the buffet fare, costing INR 410, for the evening.
Soups - Tomato soup, Hot and Sour Chicken soup.
Starters : Murgh pahadi Kabab, Pepper Chicken. Veg Manchurian.
Main course : Kadhai Chicken and Fish Curry. Sambar, Mirchi Ka Salan, Tomato Bhindi, Vegetable Chatpata, Palak Dal, Paneer Butter Masala. Baby Corn with Hot Garlic sauce and Veg noodles.
Rice: Mutton Biryani, Plain Rice. Veg Biryani
Array of Salads and Curd items.
Desserts included Vanilla Ice cream, Gajjar Halwa, Three cut fruits, one non creamy cake, pastries, Shahi Tukda, Orange mousse, boondi laddu and one Indian mithai.
Overall it was a decent spread, the veg items far outnumbering the non veg ones, but at the same time the latter also holding their fort steadfastly. The Hot and Sour Chicken soup was good, the pepper chicken melting in the mouth, the fish gravy superbly done with the right size of pepper seasoning and the mutton biryani was the king.
The desserts were also impressive, the only grouse being that they should definitely replace the cheap ubiquitious vanilla flavour with a richer variety. A Kesar pista or a Kaju Kishmish or a Chocolate chips variant will work marvels for them.

The verdict: A solid potential to reign supreme in the area. A slight tweaking of the choice of food is the only thing they need. Else there are no complaints on the hospitality, ambiance, quality-of-food and price fronts.
