If there's one thing I salute, its entrepreneurship.
And a salute is well deserved to the dapper Pravin Shetty, who has created this restaurant. Early thirties. Smiling. Simpleton. A massy appeal.
Pravin's story is straight out of a potboiler, a typical rags-to-riches story. He started with a canteen contract for SP Jain Institute of Management in the Bhavan's college campus on leveraged funds. He narrated how in 1996, Bipin Garg and Supesh Jain, two of the students had approached him with the proposal for canteen contractor assignment just when he was disillusioned with the restaurant business of his father and was on the verge of taking up a job of INR 10000 a month. With money being the main constraint, they had even offered him one month's lunch spends of all the students of the college as seed capital. With a meager amount, he started the venture, which started drawing accolades within six months. One contract grew into two, then three, then four, then a full fledged restaurant, then another and so on. At present, he has interests in four canteen contracts and five restaurants in the city. Whew!

The restaurant is divided into three sections, the open air outside, the enclosed one inside and an AC section at an elevation. Gleaming. Spic and span. Attractive lightings and tastefully adorned. They even have a party hall in the basement.
The restaurant, originally a small South Indian food joint has metamorphosed into a huge giant of a place offering varied kinds of cuisine - South Indian, North Indian, chaat items, Pav bhajis, Pizzas, Chinese food, Mexican food and so on. It has an eighteen paged menu, no less.
We called for the chef's special - Paneer Chatpata and Veg Mastana. Phulkas and Garlic naan. And Onion pulav and Dal Hariyali. A pot of curds and raita. And some mini papadams. I guess we couldn't have placed for any more intelligent order. The fare looked like this:

The Paneer Chatpata was one of the grooviest paneer dishes I've ever tasted. Thick in red spicy gravy, loaded with garlic, and balanced in condiments. Strongest recommendation to everyone. The Veg Mastana was a delectable concoction of methi, cheese, onion and paneer. A true blue innovation, and one of the most successful preparations of this place. The Onion Pulav had a slightly sweetish tinge to it, exactly the way I like it. And the Dal Hariyali was rich in coriander as promised.
We actually congratulated ourselves for our selection.

The creme de la creme was the dessert - Creamy Fruit salad with Ice cream. Note the word Creamy. Meaning, the dessert did not have custard in it. It was rather made in cream. Rich. Thick, Premium. And loaded with fruits. A vanilla ice cream scoop. Garnished with almond and pistachio gratings. And topped with a cherry.
What are the chances that I shall return to this place?
