It being a Dussera today, we decided to visit this place for lunch, it had remained pending in our wishlist since long.
Located on the main Central Road of MIDC, this restaurant hails from the renowned Tunga chain of hotels. It stands out as the only fine dining experience in the vicinity.
It being a Dussera today, we decided to visit this place for lunch, it had remained pending in our wishlist since long.
Located on the main Central Road of MIDC, this restaurant hails from the renowned Tunga chain of hotels. It stands out as the only fine dining experience in the vicinity.
I had the opportunity of interviewing Mr Sudhakar Salian, the Senior Captain here. Learnt that the place has been around for nine years, and still reigns supreme as the only Seafood buffet restaurant. The restaurant goes jam packed on week ends, the reason why they have opened up a fine dining restaurant for a la carte food on the first floor, incidentally, today itself. He also informed that everything on the menu, be it the food, the salads or even the desserts (except the Ice cream), is made inhouse itself, nothing is out sourced. Even the ice cream is procured from Baskin and Robbins, no less.
We are first served the soup of the day, the Seafood soup. One sip of it and we were assured that we are going to have a field day. Fairly thick in consistency and rich with sea food bits. Coconutty, yellowish green in colour. Droolworthy.
The soups done, we got up for action. The line of order was as follows:
Jeera Rice, Veg Hakka Noodles, Tofu with Snow Peas, Broccoli Pepper
Chutneys: Yetti (Prawns) chutney, Green chutney, Mango pickle, Green chilly pickle, Curds, Raita
Croissant bread, Papad, Rotis and Appam
Starters : Makai Che Bhaji, Veg Dragon Roll / Chicken Dalchini Tikka, Fish Koliwada, Prawns Peppery Hunan
Mains: Beans Sprouts in Coconut Masala, Moong Dal Palak, Paneer Shirkaje, Sabzi Tawa Masala / Murg Khatta Pyaz, Mutton Vindaloo, Fish in Goan curry
The Yetti chutney was dynamite. The Fish Koliwada simply melted in the mouth. The Prawns Peppery Hunan were delectable and we just couldn't have enough. But the best of the lot was a combination of appam and Fish in Goan curry. The combination is highly recommendable for every patron.
I barely had any stomach left for the desserts. But the wonderful sights of the cakes and ice creams beckoned me.
There was Jalebi, ice cream, Strawberry Milypily, Chocolate pastries, Pinacolada Mousse, Sabudana kheer and Moong dal halwa.
The ice cream, Butterscotch from Baskin and Robbins, was a delight - full of sugar crystals. The chocolate pastries also deserved a clap, they simply melted in the mouth. Full marks to these two. The jalebis, on the other hand, were dry, and quite unlike the syrup dripping ones you find elsewhere. Ditto for the Milypily, which was strawberry cream sandwiched between wafer biscuits. I didn't taste the rest.
The verdict: The price of INR 695 is apt for the buffet, and more so glamorous when you have a 2 + 1 scheme on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The food is awesome, and quite different from the run of the mill staid fare you get elsewhere.
